What Is OS2 Fiber?_

OS2 is a single-mode fiber optic cable standard used for long-distance connections in data centers, typically for backbone links between buildings, data halls, or to meet-me rooms. OS2 supports distances up to 10+ km and all current Ethernet speeds. It uses LC or MPO connectors depending on the application.

Technical Details

OS2 single-mode fiber has a 9/125 μm core/cladding diameter, supporting only a single mode of light propagation. This eliminates modal dispersion, enabling transmission over much longer distances than multimode fiber. OS2 supports all current Ethernet speeds (10G through 800G) at distances well beyond what multimode can achieve. In data center structured cabling, OS2 is used for backbone connections: links between data halls within a campus, connections to meet-me rooms for carrier access, and any run exceeding the 100–150m reach of OM4. OS2 fiber is identified by its yellow jacket color.

How Leviathan Systems Works with OS2 Fiber

Leviathan Systems installs OS2 single-mode fiber for backbone connections in AI data center deployments, providing the long-distance links that connect data halls, meet-me rooms, and campus infrastructure.
