What Is Busway?_

Busway is a prefabricated power distribution system that delivers electricity along a data center row using enclosed copper or aluminum bus bars. It eliminates long cable runs from the main switchgear to individual racks, simplifying power distribution for high-density environments. Tap-off boxes connect individual racks to the busway.

Technical Details

Overhead busway systems are increasingly preferred for high-density GPU deployments because they reduce the cable volume under raised floors (or eliminate the need for raised floors entirely), simplify power distribution scaling (add tap-off boxes as racks are deployed), reduce voltage drop by shortening the electrical path, and improve maintainability by providing accessible tap-off points. Busway capacity is rated in amperes and must be sized for the total row load plus growth margin. For a row of GB200/GB300 NVL72 racks at 120 kW each, busway capacity must support megawatt-scale loads. Tap-off boxes include circuit breakers and connect to rack PDUs via power whips.

How Leviathan Systems Works with Busway

Leviathan Systems coordinates with facility electrical teams on busway tap-off connections, ensuring power whip routing and PDU wiring are correctly matched to the deployed busway infrastructure.
